THEY COPIED AND PASTED THE MATH PROBLEMS FROM THEIR BOOK FOR THE OLD TEST TO THIS VERSION OF THE BOOK FOR THE REDESIGNED TEST!!

Complete garbage.
I have used the Barrons series of books for the past 8 years as my go-to for all of my company's SAT and ACT prep classes and was STUNNED when I just opened this book. THE PROBLEM SETS FOR THE MATH PORTION OF THIS NEW BOOK FOR THE REDESIGNED SAT ARE THE EXACT SAME ONES THAT THEY HAD FOR THE OLD VERSION OF THE SAT! I mean EXACTLY the same.They literally copy and pasted 18/20 of the math problem sets from old to new. What in the heck are these people at Barrons thinking? How is it possible to use the EXACT SAME problem sets for a RADICALLY REDESIGNED test? They did add a Trigonometry and an Imaginary and Complex number section to the math problem sets but the rest of the math practice sets are useless.
Also the diagnostic test does not have each question labeled as say "Coordinate Geometry" or " Ratios and Proportions/Word Problems" like their previous books did. This allowed students and myself to easily highlight specific weaknesses and go to a particular section of the book to work on those areas.
What is weird is the diagnostic test math problems do look like the redesigned test problem sets but they do not correlate with the practice sets they carried over from the old version.
Seriously how in good conscience can they sell this book to students preparing for such an important test? This is a rip-off-STAY AWAY!

Very disappointed with Barron's. I have used and recommended Barron's test prep books for over 10 years; I was waiting for this book for a class on the new SAT; the other books out there for the new SAT are below average (2 stars)
It seems that the authors have not fully realized that the new SAT has about 25 percent overlap with the old SAT, both in content and question types. This book is about 60% old SAT and 40% new SAT; seems like they copied their old book and make some changes. More than 2/3 of the new SAT math requires 2/3 algebra; in this book about only about 1/5 of the pages are dedicated to algebra. Also, they recommend picking numbers for algebra problems; this strategy will not work for the new SAT math. For the new writing section, there is not a single question related to improving paragraph effectiveness by rearranging sentences, not even in the practice tests. These questions are the toughest and thus students need more help on them.
This book is not up to Barron's standard.

Thick with knowledge!

I wish I could give it 4.5 stars, but I'll give it 5 anyways and why: IT'S THICK! Sure, the book doesn't have EVERYTHING, but it's enough for a good review/prep. I am not particularly using this for SAT prep, as much as I am using it as a reference.
The heaviest parts of the book focus primarily on the math part of the test. I'm 100% forgetful when it comes to math, so I am grateful over how dense it is. It pretty much goes over everything you will need to know on the math portion. My favorite part of the math section are all the tactics they give you. WHY WASN'T I AWARE OF THEM ALL? The book literally give you tips and tricks on how to solve problems quick and easy without using the least math as possible, or at least using no-brainer equations. I have already graduated college and this is the first time I have ever been excited about math.
The second heaviest part of the book works on the reading, language, and (optional) essay portion of the test. It's not as dense as the math section (which I know some people were upset about), but it does have some very interesting tactics. The book spends a while on grammar and has a very handy section on how to recognize question types on the reading section. The book also provides their own little dictionary that students can use to look up words while they are doing everyday reading. It's a compiled list of words most likely to appear on the test. The essay part is optional, but it's a good writing review and goes over how to write a great essay, which is handy in college!
A really nice bonus are the vocabulary flash cards at the back of the book. I already know a lot of the words from my constant use of them in writing stories, but a refresher is always nice. Besides, I am a part time English teacher in Japan, and this is great vocabulary for my students.
Overall I really like this book, and have gotten a lot of use out of it! In terms of getting a score above 1200, this will help, but don't stop studying the old fashioned way!
