Real deal beyond CRUD in rails!

I got modular rails because I was interested in moving from a monolithic app and interested in advancing my knowledge of intermediate to advanced rails. As a guy who teaches at a bootcamp, there comes a time when you want students to move from the usual CRUD nonsense and on to proper software architectural patterns even in the context of a framework.
I shared the table of contents with a colleague of mine from the US and he too agreed that this book was the deal.
Can't wait to get more from the author.

About the Author
Neal Kinsey grew up in southeast Missouri and worked on the farm for his father until he graduated from high school. To make his way through college, he worked part-time and summers as a crop reporter for the USDA's ASCS in Missouri and Illinois. He obtained his B.S. degree in marketing from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. In the fall of 1966, Kinsey enrolled in a master's degree program in Food Industry Logistics in Agricultural Economics at the University of Missouri, Columbia. Here is where he first met Dr. William A. Albrecht, who later provided the technical training in soil fertility required by his present profession. In 1968 Kinsey moved to Texas and took a job with a large environmental research project conducted by Ambassador College at Big Sandy. He eventually became assistant to the Director. Later, he became business manager followed by agricultural operations manager for the Ambassador College Agriculture Department. While serving in this! capacity, he became a certified consultant for Brookside Farms Laboratory of New Knoxville, Ohio. In 1977 he established Kinsey Agricultural Services. His workshops and seminars take him all around the world to train hundreds of growers in soil balancing utilizing cation exchange specializing in building and maintaining soil for quality crop production.

Great information not readily available from other sources. Only problem is the guy repeats himself so much (perhaps unavoidable), that it gets confusing, particularly regarding calcium and magnesium and their interfaces.

Very Helpful Book on SOA

This is a very helpful book on SOA because it provides the business case for SOA, an excellent technical overview, and real-life examples of how to use it.

While it is written from an SAP perspective, any IT group that is investigating SOA will find value in this book -- as it describes how SOA impacts different layers of the IT stack (from persistence to business objects, to process orchestration, and uesr interfaces). It also provides actual case studies.

SOA - reality today!

Being a student of business and information management, I had heard about SOA before, both from a technical perspective (XML, Web services) and from a business standpoint (shiny visions of flexible processes). This book is like the missing link between the two areas! It does not only tell you that SOA will change organizations but it also shows *how* exactly this is going to happen. The authors describe all relevenat aspects, starting from organizational change down to the SAP tools that can be used to model processes and to create your own service-oriented applications.

What surprised me most was that ESA - SAP's flavour of SOA - is business-ready today! This is illustrated with numerous real-world examples from a wide range of corporations. The case studies give a good idea of useful ESA applications and show how the transition to a service-oriented infrastructure could take place.

"Enterprise SOA" is suited for everybody interested in information management, even without any previous knowledge in the SOA field. After reading through the book, you'll finally know how SOA is changing the business environment and how SAP is bringing the concepts to life based on open standards. Tone Finnanger is the founder and sole designer of the Tilda brand, which she started in 1999 at the age of 25. Tone grew up in Oslo, the capital of Norway, and now lives and works on a small island in the Oslo fjord. Her education is in classic painting and graphic design. Adorable Dolls

I pre-ordered this book because I fell in love with the adorable doll on the book's cover. As I waited for the book's release, I became concerned that once it arrived I might be disappointed. I am not disappointed at all!

In addition to the two sizes of dolls, their clothes, and accessories there are three lovely pieced quilts, a house handbag, a house shaped sewing kit, cushions to match the quilts, monkeys, whales, garland/banner, snake (eek!), parrots, and a small clasp purse. There are also instructions for fashioning three different fun themed rooms using all of the projects; in doll, sea, and jungle themes.

I appreciated the instruction given for safety when it comes to small parts that pose choking hazards and the materials used for the toys we sew for small children. The hair of the dolls is painted on with a non-toxic textile paint. The brand that Tone recommends is not carried on Amazon US but I’m going to instead use Black Acrylic Paint mixed with a bit of Textile Medium that I have on hand and have used before on similar fabric painting projects.

As is typical of "Tilda" books, the instructions are not comprehensive. There are no general or basic instructions, so a knowledge of sewing, piecing, and finishing the quilts is required or another source material will be needed to complete these projects. A beginner may have some trouble constructing these designs.

All measurements are given in both inches and millimeters. The pattern templates are all full size but they don't include seam allowances.

Once again, you have done it Tonne...rocked my "cute" world. I saw a review that mentioned the "hair template", she actually does tell you how to do the hair in the beginning of the book. I have waited anxiously for this book, I have all of the others, they never get old, it's something new every time, I love it!! These books are my "tabletop" books.....

I have been a big fan of Tilda for years. I own almost all her books and this new addition to my collection is fantastic. I love it. This time Tilda has printed the patterns full size so no need to enlarge. You just trace off and start making these gorgeous toys.
I picked the whale first. So easy to make. Love it.

Charlie spooned some yogurt into her mouth. “Is this about that Montclaire thing?”

“Yes.”

Sophie picked up the folder on her desk and flipped it open. Julian Montclaire Robespierre looked back at her from the glossy 8x10 publicity photo. He wasn’t smiling. In fact she had her doubts that the guy ever smiled. Not that he needed to. He was hot regardless of his expression. There was absolutely no question about that.

“Are you staring at his picture again?” There was a note of warning in Charlie’s tone. “That is so creepy. Seriously.”

“It’s not creepy. I’m just sizing up the enemy.”

Sophie is a journalist. Julian is a CEO billionaire of a company and she reported that they may have small traces of gluten in their food. They are supposed to be gluten free. See what happens between the two of them also.

This book captured me before I even finished this first episode - and that's why I bought the next two and lined them up on my carousel before I even began this review. Sophie is an investigative reporter, determined to out the scumbags who sell dangerous products to the public. Julian is a multi-billionaire who owns one such corporation. Maybe he knows about the possible danger, maybe he doesn't. Either way he and Sophie meet and the die is cast. They belong together - or do they? Not if he's a liar. Serious stuff, I know, but it's also a romantic comedy as well. Warning: each episode ends in a cliffhanger. My suggestion: get the first one and see if it charms you as it did me. It's a winner.

THEY ARE THE BEST FOR A FIRST READ!

Enid’s early works include the ‘Secret’ books about Peggy, Mike, Nora and Jack. They were the catalyst which encouraged me to start reading more than 50 years ago. Thank you, Enid.

The BBC, many public libraries, local authorities and alleged educational experts have been completely wrong about the worth of the Blyton works. I can remember having substantial difficulty obtaining the original versions of the books. Quite a few shops would not stock them then but they were wonderful stories for teenagers! The tales are great to read for their simplicity and straightforwardness.

When one did find copies of the book they were quite expensive all those years ago but great to own. I loved the physical appearance of the books as well which I treasured as a youngster with the way in which the books were produced then making them somehow much easier to read.

It’s a delight to read these stories of adventure again in middle age although recent editing has diminished some of the memories I have of the original editions and words used then (but I am now getting old).

Never mind… these books remain one of my best friends for life: they began my own reading adventure so do read these special adventures for yourselves.

Frustrated with the lack of practical, visual guides to help him teach his 10-year-old how to build with Arduino, he set out to record his own experiments, and The Arduino Project Handbook is the result. Geddes has a bachelor's degree from Edinburgh College of Art. He lives in Dumfries, Scotland.

Great collection of Arduino Projects

The Arduino has been one of the key elements in fueling interest in IoT among individual developers of all ages. It is an excellent way to get started with both electronics and programming and build fun little projects along the way, which could form the basis of future ideas. Often one of the challenges that one faces with getting started with the board is that you need to understand what you exactly need in terms of hardware i.e. in addition to the Arduino, you will also need multiple other electronic components like sensors, resistors, wires, etc. In addition to that, you need to have sample code ready to make sure that you can see your little project come to light.

This book, Arduino Project Handbook by Mark Geddes is an excellent resource that presents 25 fun projects that you can do with the Arduino. Early on in the book, you can easily note that the author has scouted through multiple resources for us and carefully prepared each project for the reader. Each project specifies clearly the components needed and also provides the code and detailed explanation along with circuit diagrams, so that you have a multiple ways that you can learn about the projects.

The 25 projects are split into multiple categories like LEDs, Sound, Servos, LCDs, Numeric Controls and Security. Each of these categories has multiple projects in them starting with simple ones and growing in complexity. You can also jump into any project that interests you, which I found very valuable since it is perfectly possible that you might not have all the components for a specific project. I like the way the projects have been broken into categories and they start making a lot of sense since typically in most IoT projects- you sense/collect data, visualize data and maybe perform actions. Given that the categories fall in place beautifully.

The book comes along with a companion site where you can download the libraries and sketches. That is a great help if your interest is more on plug and play without going much into the details. An Appendix on Components is very helpful, especially if this is your guide to teach electronics to others.

Overall this is a great collected of projects on the Arduino platform. It can save you tons of hours scouting around the internet for similar information.

Neat book with extra projects if you already have some experience with Arduino

I teach a high school Applied STEM class, and one of the units I'm introducing this year is circuits and Arduinos. I bought an Arduino directly from the company for myself to mess with, and also a bunch of kits sold by Vilros for my students. First off, let me say that the book that comes with the Ardurino directly from the company is stellar. It does a nice job explaining projects, pieces, background, the code....I love it. The book that comes with the Vilros is pretty poor, on the other hand. Unfortunately, the Arduino book that comes with the kit from the company is not independently for sale anywhere, so I am always on the lookout for good books that I can bring into my classroom as resources for the kids who want to go beyond the few projects that we will do in class.

So, how does this Arduino Project Handbook compare? There's some good background, and I love that the book is in color (super important for putting together circuits!). There are 22 projects (only 15 in the original Arudino book), so you definitely get some good variety with this Project Handbook. However, the book that comes from Arduino has some nice features that are lacking in the Project Handbook. The original book gives you a difficulty level for each project, the estimated amount of time each project will take, and really does an amazing job giving background and explaining what each part in the circuit is doing, along with the point of the code.
