Best Neuro handbook

This thin handbook is as indispensible as your neurology tools during residency training. It packs a lot of information in a tiny space and covers many topics. It does not have references or prognostic stats, but it will help you in DDx, basic management issues, or just simply act as a reminder when you can't quite remember details about something. I was pleasantly surprised at how much info is in this book. Highly recommended.

About the Author
Captain Scotty Smiley is the Army’s only active-duty blind officer. He lost the use of both eyes when a car bomber blew himself up in front of Scotty’s vehicle. A recipient of the bronze star and Purple Heart, he currently teaches the core course in leadership at West Point. Scotty and his wife Tiffany are the proud parents of two young children.

Doug Crandall served in the Army for thirteen years, including the last five at West Point where he was an award-winning leadership teacher and later the Executive Officer to the Dean. Doug now lives in Richland, Washington, with his wife Stephanie and their children.

I pre-ordered this book at the recommendation of my Military Science teacher, who was CPT Smiley's platoon sergeant at the time of the VBIED attack that took his eyesight. I received it on a day where I was going to be on a plane for 5 hours, after going an entire night with no sleep finishing homework. I opened the book in the airport with no intention of actually reading it, because I had every intention of sleeping on the plane.

I finished the book in 4 hours.

Maybe I have a slightly biased opinion of the book- I have been privileged enough to personally meet CPT Smiley and hear him talk about his experiences, as well as being present at his book signing a few days after I finished it. But regardless, the story is touching, honest, and heart wrenching. I cried on the plane twice, both times having the person next to me choked up describing the book and the parts of it. I also caught myself laughing and smiling to myself, rejoicing where the author rejoiced.

I have truly never read a better book. CPT Smiley's story of the return of his faith, as well as the amazing faith of his wife, is unparalleled. I have recommended this book to EVERYONE I have talked to. You will not be able to put the book down once you start it.

Almost finished reading, and have thoroughly enjoyed hearing (Yes! It reads just as I would imagine Scotty telling his story aloud -- which is nice.) The imagery, thoughts, feelings are well-explained so I "get it." His faith is so real, complete with the mountains and valleys to strengthen and deepen any reader's own beliefs. Plus, my kid sister is good friends with Scotty and his in-laws, so had to finally snatch a copy for our home library. Thank you to Scotty, his family, and all our service men and women everywhere. God bless you always!

Great Inspirational Story

I first heard about Scott Smiley when watching NBA Today while working out one lunchtime. His talk with the 2006 US World Championships basketball team was brought tears to many eyes. Later, when I found that my former Cadet Basic Training squad leader Doug Crandall was co-writing a book with Scotty, I was hooked and have been eagerly anticipating the launch for over a year. The book definitely doesn't disappoint. Scotty pulls no punches on his feelings of isolation and hopelessness but also shows that God has much more in store for him than he can imagine. When I feel down in the dumps, I try to remember Scotty and that I need to get over my minor problems. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

About the Author
LAURIE DAVID is devoted to stopping global warming. She founded the Stop Global Warming Virtual March and has produced several projects that aim to bring global warming to public attention, including the TBS Earth to America! comedy special, the HBO documentary Too Hot Not to Handle, and Al Gore's documentary, An Inconvenient Truth. She was voted Glamour's Woman of the Year for 2006. Laurie lives with her husband and their two daughters in Los Angeles, California.

Cambria is a former award-winning advertising copywriter. She has written articles for Boys Life, Parenting, and the Los Angeles Times magazine. Cambria speaks to children all over the country about reducing their carbon footprint. She sits on the Los Angeles Leadership Council of the Natural Resources Defense Council and lives with her husband and three children in Los Angeles.

This is a truely great chalenging and inspiring film. Al Gore and this film deserve all the awards and Nobel Prize they earned.

Incorrect Critical Charts

Readers should be aware that the the first editions of this book contain a chart (page 18 ) of the past 650,000 years that shows that CO2 emissions rose BEFORE global temperatures. In fact, the chart is reversed - CO2 emissions did rise, but only hundreds (in some cases thousands) of years AFTER temperature rises. For some reason the chart lines are backwards.

Scholastic is planning to issue a revised version with an updated chart, but there will be no revision to the text of the book, which references and explains the chart. I don't know that most kids will notice that the chart does not support the argument, but an important subject like this should be accurate in all details.

With such inaccuracies I do not recommend the book. Explain global warming to your children yourself - and be sure and use accurate information!

Hopeful and Empowering for Kids (and adults too!)

This book is fantastic! It discusses a potentially scary subject in an engaging and surprisingly optimistic way, informing kids while also giving them a feeling of hope and empowerment. The ideas in this book are presented in a clear and clever way. The authors even managed to bring a tone of lightheartedness to an undeniably heavy topic.

The importance of preserving our children's future is not political issue...it is a love issue. And whether you drive a Prius or a Hummer, there's no doubt that we all love our children. This book helps us open our eyes and our hearts to the many small (and not so small ways) we can each contribute to a cleaner, safer earth. And it allows our kids to be part of that healing.

There are so many things kids can do to help care for our world, and this book gives them the tools with which to do it. It also invites them into an age appropriate sense of responsibilty and ownership for the animals and nature that they adore. The book imparts practical, doable ways kids can contribute and lets them know that they (and their efforts) count!

Good, but not Great.

While these devotions work great for those traveling internationally, they don't suit the mission trips in country as well. If you like mission trip devos that would work for all ages, both in the States and abroad, then check out Anticipate, Experience, Reflect by Standard Publishing. They are much better and offer a clearer biblical perspective on missions. Lena bogs down these devo's with too much details of her own travels and not even scripture. Many times the devos have very little or no scripture. I stopped reading them after awhile.
Instead use the Standard Publishing set. They are much better, more fitting for a wider audience, and it is written by more than one author each with a different perspective on mission work.

Part I: General Aspects and Part II: Theories of Genesis constitute the core for presentation and discussion in the classroom, while Part III: Sketches of Individual Languages (such as Eskimo Pidgin, Haitian, Saramaccan, Shaba Swahili, Fa d'Ambu, Papiamentu, Sranan, Berbice Dutch) and Part IV: Grammatical Features (such as TMA particles and auxiliaries, noun phrases, reflexives, serial verbs, fronting) can form the basis for further exploration. A concluding chapter draws together the different strands of argumentation, and the annotated list provides the background information on several hundred pidgins, creoles and mixed languages.
Diversity rather than unity is taken to be the central theme, and for the first time in an introduction to pidgins and creoles, the Atlantic creoles receive the attention they deserve. Pidgins are not treated as necessarily an intermediate step on the way to creoles, but as linguistic entities in their own right with their own characteristics. In addition to pidgins, mixed languages are treated in a separate chapter.
Research on pidgin and creole languages during the past decade has yielded an abundance of uncovered material and new insights. This introduction, written jointly by the creolists of the University of Amsterdam, could not have been written without recourse to this new material.

Finally, practical advice.

This is not one of those garbage "no money down" real estate books, this book gives you valid and useful tips to help you build wealth in real estate, not pie in the sky nonsense. After reading this book I went out and did a deal (flip)and it went reasonably well. I'll get better with experience but this book gives you the basics to get started. Avoid all the no money, no credit books and read this one.

Anyone with common sense need not read this: Save your $21.95

I was very disappointed at the shallow nature of this volume. Several chapters in I realized that this was just another way for Trump to generate a few more royalty dollars. This whole volume can be summarized in a few general maxims: Chapters 1-3 Think like an entrepreneur... meaning take risks. Chapters 4-5 Do your OWN homework ... meaning don't rely on generally accepted rules. Chapters 6-10 Come up with the NEXT great idea ..... meaning think outside the box don't just follow the herd. The only reason I did not give this book a 1 star * is that the last four chapters DO contain some valuable information and charts, formulas and methods that DO go beyond just common sense or obvious advice like where's the market headed? (Chapter 6). In particular it was not until the final chapter (14) How to Value Properties did I actualy take my pen and paper out and start to take some notes. A far better read is Confesssions of a Real Estate Entrepreneur. Save your Time. Use your Common Sense and Spend your $22 bucks to buy another book.

READ ME! Eldred shows his experience

Eldred does it again, showing that he not only knows how to build assets and build cash flow, he also knows how to utilize the Trump name (and Mr. Trump writing a very good foreword). Let's face it, real estate is the best industry out there for growing your money. Why? According to the book, because population is increasing and they don't make land anymore... So increase demand and limited supply.
