Incredibly detailed book, must have compilation for LEGO SW fans!

On a whim, I purchased this book for my son to enjoy reading about his LEGO Star Wars figurines. Upon receipt, I thumbed through the pages and was totally blown away with the detailed pictures and fun and obscure facts that the publisher had put together in this compilation of LEGO SW history.

I posted a few pictures above to illustrate some of the amazing detail this book has -- also note the entire list of figures listed in the two page table of contents.

First off, the book is not too large, and could be easily carried around by a five year old. It is hardcover and the glossy pages are printed on thick paper. The colors in the pictures are lively and the layout of each page is very organized and easy to follow. The publisher/authors definitely put a lot of thought into the presentation of each lego figure. About 1/4 of the thickness of the book is taken up by a cardboard insert that holds the heroic scoundrel Han Solo. He looks pretty clean cut and is wearing the medal given at the end of Episode IV by Princess Leia. He even has Han's smirk on his face. This figure is an exclusive to this book, so if you want to add him to your collection, you need to buy this book.

Each individual figure is color classified into the episode they appear, as can be seen in the table of contents. The figures are printed quite large, around 7-8 inches tall, with exceptional detail. Droids are also included. A small descriptive blurb is in the top corner of each page. Then a "data file" box will tell you which year, lego set#/name, # pieces, and # of variants of manufacture. Lots of smaller white boxes point out all kinds of details about each and every figure, such as:
1) "Stolen imperial binoculars hang from Han's torso" p. 92
2) "On duty on Hoth, Leia wears her hair back in braids. This Lego hair piece is also seen on Leia in her Endor outfit (p.139)" p. 93
3) "Lando's exclusive cape is blue on the outside and yellow on the inside. It is a status symbol that distinguishes him as Baron Administrator of Cloud City." p. 111
4) "Yoda's head is made from rubber, like the Plo Koon (p.164), Kit Fisto (p.45) and classic Yoda (p.17) minifigures" p. 158
5) "Only one other Lego astromech droid has a blue status display, R2Q2 (p.201)" p.46

As can be read above, the book is quite good about cross-referencing pages to give the reader the ability to quickly find the same attribute in other figures. When appropriate, a nice colorful picture of the actual Lego set from the whence the figure originates is also included. Additional boxes also appear with pictures of variant figures including very rare figurines created for very specific events (like a bronze Bobba Fett). At the end of book, an index is provided that lists ALL the lego set#'s the figure has ever appeared in. You can then go to the Lego website to find the set (you must use the Holobrick archive, not regular search box):

I believe every single human, alien, and droid figure in the Lego Star Wars universe up to this point is included in this book -- even the obscure and very limited event specific ones. The way this book was put together, from the large high quality pictures, the fun descriptions, cross references, esoteric facts, figure variants, and lego set#'s makes this book truly encyclopedic. I was very impressed with this book... and I think my 5 year old will enjoy it too.

Nice but where's the Shadow ARF Trooper?

This is a very nice book that is a great follow-on to the Lego Star Wars "The Visual Dictionary". "The Character Encyclopedia" includes the Han Solo minifigure complimenting the Luke Skywalker that came with "The Visual Dictionary" book. Great for collectors of the Lego Star Wars minifigs.

I bought this for my 10-yr old son who is a big fan of Star Wars and the Legos. He takes the Han Solo minifig out to look at it and then places it back into the book when he is done. The holder built into the book is designed so that you can lift up the plastic flap that contains the figure and continue using it as a holder. Make sure you release the tape from the bottom as the "hinge" is at the top.

The size of the book is smaller than the previous released DK books. It measures 7 3/8" wide by 9 3/8" tall. This is actually a really good size for the information contained on the pages of the book. Each page is dedicated to one Minifig in the Star Wars sets. Here are a few page features:

* A nice description of the character and their role/function in Star Wars
* Each minifig description is cross referenced to the sets which they appear
* Each minifig description has descriptions of any released variations (if any)
* A very nice photograph of the minifig taking up most of the page
* Bits of trivia regarding the design

The index also contains a nice reference for all the set numbers that the minifig can be found.

This first edition contains all the figures that are currently available in the 2011 Star Wars sets.

One interesting note is that this book is missing one of the promotional minifigs released earlier in 2011 year (or was it late 2010). That was the Shadow ARF Trooper which was a Lego Store promotion. My son and I got one and I was interested in finding a description of it. It is interesting since the book mentions limited release minifigs such as the chrome gold C-3PO and bronze Boba Fett. I wonder if folks noticed any other missing figures.

Regardless, this is a very nice book and missing an obscure limited release figure doesn't detract from this book. It would give the publisher an opportunity for a 2nd edition in a few years when Lego releases even more minifigs.

Another great Star Wars and Lego book from DK

We started with the DK book on Lego Star Wars sets, that includes the Luke mini figure. My son loves it and 4 weeks later is still reading it nightly before bed. It was a 5 star product, especially at the Amazon price. This is now our 4th DK book as we picked up the Lego Harry Potter book and Clone Wars character encyclopedia in the last month as well.

This book is smaller in physical size then the other two lego books. It is the same size as the Clone Wars encyclopedia and like that book has about 200 pages. Also like the Clone wars book, each character gets their own page and the layout is very similar to that book. The mini fig is pictured in a large layout form and usually the set (or sets) from which it comes are pictured in smaller form. There are about 4-6 little trivia facts about details on the figure itself, that are perfect for my 1st grader to work on his reading. There is also a small trivia box about the set it comes from, another about the number it is assigned/year issued, and usually a bigger trivia box with an overview of the character.

Unlike his earlier DK book on lego star wars sets, this one just got released (september 2011) and is up to date on the figures and sets from 2011. My son has the Plo Koon star fighter and both Plo Koon, his Droid, and his ship are included. In the other book (which is still outstanding) his set is only mentioned in a timeline they updated in the front of the book, but not in the book itself. So if your little one wants to look up minifigs from something he just picked up a week ago, it would be in here. The only one I am aware of not in here is the "little Han" figure which came with the Walmart blu-ray release of the padawan menace last week.

I have reviewed all 4 of the DK books now and I think they are all great. My little guy gets his love of both Legos and Star Wars from me, and I also like paging through these books. This book, like the others, is great and the price on Amazon was equally nice. Again my son loves to read these and in his mind they are as good as toys. He is thrilled to practice his reading every night because of these books. If I could give this one (and the others)6 stars, I would.

I highly recommend this book because it is another marvelous work by Sandra Cisneros. Like her other book, The House on Mango Street, it offers sad tales from the hearts of young girls and is an excellent insight on the unique prose style of Cisneros. Besides being enjoyable, the Spanish version may be helpful to those studying Spanish by working on translating, otherwise, this book is still a great classic that any fan of Sandra Cisneros should enjoy!

I love this book. Cisneros writes in such a beautiful and poetic style that I am immediately wherever she takes me. Often when reading this, I had to stop to write down certain lines that appealed to me, such as, "...I believe that love is always eternal. Even if eternity is only five minutes." Wonderful stories.

An introduction to fuzzy logic theory and design

The previous reviewer said this is a mathematically difficult book? I say yes and no. This is a nice book for theoretical fuzzy control novice. It is considered a thin book but covers sufficient basics leading to concept and design of fuzzy logic and fuzzy control.

But watch out! This is not a book for those who have not a propriate background of control theory nor advanced mathematics (abstract algebra and numerical analysis). If you are a student or someone who has little or no knowledge of such topics, I suggest you to find other books.

I think this book is excellent for those who need to design control machinary, as artificial intelligent base. I recommend this book to anybody who needs an introduction of fuzzy control theory and design (maybe for people who work for control machinary manufacturing companies?).

Mathematical difficulty will make you tired. But the idea to adjust the fuzzy parameters, i think, is helpful to study adaptive fuzzy control. Mathematical difficulty is due to stability analysis.

Wealth That Only Comes from Knowledge and Wisdom

A lot of us are having so much difficulty finding their real purpose in life and this book is just the answer! It contains a lot of self-inspiring messages and principles that will guide you on how you should be living your life.

After reading this book, I learned so many things that has made a great impact on my life. I realized that success isn't defined on how big your material wealth is, but rather it is measured by how you treat others and what you do to make a huge difference in other people's lives.

Definitely a great read! It was worth my time.

VERY WELL PRESENTED

Very good, the best strategys in a clear form. Each one os us need diferent ways to internalize modifications we pretend to make. Maybe we can have read some of those thecnics but Wouter write very clear and easy. It was for me atonish to read a writer from Sout Africa and enjoy so much. Diferent enviroments can create diferent visions and forms of expressions this one is grate for me. I am reading for the third time and will read many more, is on my preference reading books for my transformation.

Light regurgitation of others' ideas. The title has no value besides the bragging rights of the author driving a Porche. To me, both the book and the car scream "midlife crisis" - let me show you what an accomplished man I am - fancy car, wise man, and published author. Hiring a better editor would be money well spent.

About the Author
Michael Morpurgo is one of Britain's best-loved writers for children, and he has won many prizes, including the Smarties Prize, The Writers Guild Award, and the Blue Peter Book Award for his recent novel, Private Peaceful, which has also had two successful runs as a play devised by Bristol Old Vic. Michael Foreman's artwork has earned him widespread recognition as one of the world's leading illustrators. The Best Christmas Present in the World, is a moving, memorable, beautifully illustrated Christmas story picture book, partly Factual and partly Fiction, aimed at young readers. The first part of the story is true: a simply told retelling of the well known story of the 'unofficial' Christmas truce that happened during the 1st World War in 1914. German (Fritz) and British (Tommy) troops on the Western Front in Flanders, France were dug into 'trenches' and facing each other through the barbed wire strung across the wasteland battleground known as 'no man's land'. On 25th December, 1914, in an astonishing spontaneous gesture of peace and goodwill, soldiers on both sides laid down their rifles, climbed out of their trenches, ventured out beyond their barbed wire and came to-gether in between the lines in 'no man's land' to celebrate Christmas day, 1914, to-gether, a moment of humanity in a time of carnage. The horrors of trench warfare were quelled temporarily by the outbreak of peace - if only for a night, and Christmas Eve at that - as 'Fritz' and 'Tommy', recognising their common humanity, joined forces in no man's land, shaking hands in friendship, eating and drinking to-gether and exchanging small gifts, followed by an impromtu football match; and all this joy and goodwill on the same horrific battleground terrain where warfare had raged but a short time before. Michael Morpurgo simply and deftly retells the remarkable story as it happened through a letter written by a young soldier in 1914 to his girlfriend at home.

Now the story switches from Fact to Fiction as the time period fast forwards some eighty years on when the young soldier's forgotten letter is discovered by chance hidden in an old rolltop desk. Morpurgo adds a contemporary twist to the story that is stunning in its impact. Both adults and young readers can enjoy this book. Really, this extraordinary story with a touching twist in the tale will pull at the heartstrings of anyone who has a heart.

Love this threesome

I love the Men in Blue series by author Jayne Rylon and I've been looking forward to reading Jambrea, Clint and Matt's story in Spread Her Wings. The thing that made this book so much fun to read is that this story was written for and starred another author I adore, Jambrea Jo Jones, as the heroine who captured the heart of two sexy cops - damn lucky woman. LOL!!!

Jambrea doesn't give her heart easily to a man after all these years, the memory of her first time with an unattainable man still haunts her and leaves her looking for love. Luckily for her, she has two very sexy cops and partners willing and ready to finally make her theirs, if only they could figure out the sudden attraction they feel towards each other after a shared kiss *sigh*

I adored Jambrea, she was strong, kind-hearted and loved unconditionally. I could feel her longing for the man in her past and and her determination to finally get Clint and Matt to act on their feelings for her. I cheered her on as she attempted to move on albeit unsuccessfully with Lily's help...that sneaky Mistress. Hehehe!

I loved how protective and tender Clint and Matt treated Jambrea in and out of the bedroom. All three of them together set the sheets on fire! OMG! I could not get enough and Jambrea, you are one sexy, desirable lady who had these two men on their knees to please you :)
I enjoyed the closeness Clint and Matt shared and you could tell it went deeper than just friendship. I couldn't wait for them to explore their attraction to each other and Jambrea made it possible for them to do that without any judgment.

It was so much fun to visit with all the gang again and see the friendship and support they gave one another. Jayne never fails to deliver a sexy, emotional and thrilling story that has readers riveted until the last page. I am dying to read Lucas and Ellie's story next in this series.

Matt and Clint had been circling Jambrea for a while, finally feeling more comfortable about attempting a shared arrangement, only to pull back once again when they unexpectedly felt confused about their feelings for each other. Jambrea is getting sick of waiting for the guys to figure things out and is ready to give up on them, when her past catches up to her and she needs their help. Given Matt and Clint were being extremely obtuse, considering they had close friends in a three-way relationship with similar beginnings and still they moved so cautiously, but I felt Jambrea was abrasive and annoyingly whiny in the beginning of the story, leaving her less than attractive or engaging. Once things were moving along, I liked her much better and the bickering, playful relationship between the two guys, as it got back to normal, was really nice. The trouble following Jambrea is a bit of a mystery that slowly unravels along the way, but for the most part behind-the-scenes as they hole up in the cabin and wait for the all-clear. The ending left it open for additional sequels, with a couple more match-ups in the works, and I hope to see this series continue. I love the characters and the tight, close-nit family feel of the whole Men in Blue group. Great series!

I have read all of the books in this series. I love Jayne's writing style.Her books are easy to follow, and will keep you reading well into the night, or early morning if you're anything like me. I loved how the characters in this book came together. No pun intended. How can you pass up reading these books when one of the statements start out by having a warning?! And,,,,, having not one, but two, men to play with? If you like kink, you"ll love this book.
