Las historias son narradas por la protagonista, Francisca Díaz, quien crece en casa de sus abuelos, Jairo y Manuela, en la ciudad de León, durante la década de los ochenta. Es a través de sus reminiscencias que nos traslada desde la boda de sus bisabuelos en la Basílica del pueblo El Viejo, cercano a Chinandega hasta culminar en los noventa cuando parte a El Salvador, dejando atrás sus amadas tierras nicaragüenses. Como todos los libros de serie Cuentos cortos de un largo viaje, éste es el resultado de las experiencias del autor, recopiladas a lo largo de más de quince años de viajes sin interrupción por tierras latinoamericanas. En ellos se busca retratar la amplia riqueza cultural y de tradiciones que caracteriza a los países latinoamericanos, unidos entre sí por un legado histórico en común. El libro se encuentra ilustrado por una serie de fotografías tomadas en diferentes partes de América Latina por el autor, convertidas a blanco y negro para su impresión.
