Can't Believe I Found It!!!

You should know that I have never read this book. This is my husband's "go to book" for a lot of his work. The EF-5 tornado that hit our hometown left his lab a pile of toothpicks. There are some things that you forget to put on your insurance claim and this was one of them. It took me three years to find this book in good shape and at a reasonable price (not $3K). The author has passed away and it is out of print. He looked into the 3rd edition, but found he would have to pay fees to get supplements online and it just wasn't as good as the Silver 2nd edition. Gold edition, no way, had to be the Silver. He has been in "the biz" for a few decades and has said that those that currently have the publishing rights should do another printing of what? The Silver 2nd edition. I gave it five stars by proxy.

unconventional but great

This book on pathology of inflammatory skin diseases is quite different than anything else in the field. Ackerman presents his own opinions boldly and interestingly. Have I had a book like this during my residency, I would have probably gotten more involved in this subject. At that time the book to read was Lever: the result was profound sleepiness and inability to finish a chapter. Here it is all different: each small chapter is thought provoking and original. Finally skin pathology became interesting!

This review of Anders' book appeared in the October, 1997 edition of Choice Magazine: "In the definitive work on electric current ratings of cables, Anders, a research engineer at Ontario Hydro who has worked in this field for more than 20 years, puts together the latest advances in cable technology as well as information from the latest integrated electronic components standards to produce a very technically detailed work on this narrow topic. There are 12 chapters organized in three parts; each chapter has many useful references and is filled with equations and derivations. The basis for all cable ratings is heat production; as such, Anders discusses how the heat is produced and how to calcualte the resulting cable temperature in the first part of the book, "Modeling." The second part, "Evaluation of Parameters," shows how to calculate the electrical and thermal parameters of a cable needed for calculations presented in the first part. The final portion, "Advanced Topics, " covers special situations and numerical methods. This is an updated and more detailed book than B.M. Weedy's Thermal Design of Underground Systems (1988). CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

The consequences of poor planning and design is often costly. Even small oversights, such as inadequately sized dock doors or improperly positioned rack beams, can snowball into large, head-pounding problems. The only way to avoid or counteract this downward spiral is by getting back to the basics: Reassess the current operation, then properly plan and design — or re-design — the facility to create a world-class warehouse.

How does one go about designing a world-class warehouse? Begin by understanding the qualities that make a warehouse world class. It must offer consistent high-quality service in a facility that is economical to build, efficient to operate, and flexible enough to adapt to changing business conditions. Its operational components must consist of a complex but balanced array of facility, people, equipment, information systems, and product, which work as a cohesive unit to maximize the utilization of space while optimizing throughput. It must also perform all of these tasks under an inflexible trio of constraints: limited time, finite available space, and bottom-line costs.

These dimensions of time, space, and costs are the three cornerstones by which an efficient and effective warehouse is measured. A warehouse that is able to accomplish its mission while saving time, space, and costs in the process is on its way to world-class status. Knowing how to use these measures in warehouse design becomes a definite advantage to a warehouse manager. It is also the primary subject of this book.

The chapter on warehouse time standards discusses the use of time to measure work, estimate labor requirements, evaluate alternative designs, improve operations and benchmark operations, as well as its use as input in simulation analysis. By measuring time in the warehouse, one can identify opportunities in the design where time can be saved, subsequently reducing labor costs and increasing throughput. This chapter also includes a collection of common warehouse time standards that can be used in planning and design.

The chapter on warehouse space calculations goes beyond just calculating space requirements for the different operational areas of a warehouse. It also includes an introduction to the basic components of warehouse space from the receiving to the shipping docks. It discusses how to design these functions in the least amount of space.

The chapter on warehouse cost calculations focuses on the conversion of time and space requirements into their bottom-line costs. It summarizes the different warehouse cost centers with the latest cost figures, spreadsheets, and techniques to analyze these costs. This book can help you.

I bought this book for myself, I did not purchase the other book as my husband has recently become atheist. I have had struggles in my marriage since then so I bought this book to help work on myself. To help work on my love for my husband despite our major differences. It has, in a way, "forced" me to love him even on our bad days. This book can humble you, if you let it. I assume the Bethke's wrote this book with intentions of being a fun challenge for couples, but considering my situation this has instead left a different, but great impact on me. If your relationship is God based get this book, if one believes and the other doesn't, get this book, if you find it hard to love your husband, get the book. I don't think you'll regret it. This book will help you more than it will help him, as long as your not looking for anything in return.

I've been finding love in a new relationship as a single mom post divorce...we are both divorced with young children and needing healing. This book has helped me immensely in reflecting Christ to my partner. It's not always easy, especially when you've been hurt in the past, but God is faithful and can redeem that which the locust has eaten.

These are creative ways and tools that I can use for a long time. I originally thought it was more of a marriage building tool to do together and discuss, but the books are more individual than I thought.
